Daniel Lau
Mr. LAU Kwun-Hung, Daniel, is a Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences (HKIMLS). He is a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist Part I (HKMLTB, MLT Part I) with over 16 years of experience working in central laboratories of major public-listed and private hospitals in Hong Kong. Mr Lau awarded the membership of Character Scientist (CSci) elected by Science Council, UK. Mr Lau also is the Fellow of HKIMLS cum Council member and CLSI membership. Mr. Lau has completed numerous translational research and commercialization projects, with a focus on thyroid dysfunction, cervical cancer virus distribution, autoimmune diseases, and cancer research. He published Hong Kong's first literature on thyrocardiac disease (Thyrotoxicosis-induced cardiac disease). He holds a BSc in Biological Science and MSc in Biomedical Science from Edinburgh Napier University and is an alumni of the Higher Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science (HTC) programme offered by HKU SPACE.

In this talk, Mr. Daniel Lau, an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist and Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences, shares his personal journey of translating frontline laboratory findings into real-world diagnostic innovations and commercial products.
Using real case studies from his own portfolio (including Hong Kong’s first published work on thyrocardiac disease), he will highlight actionable strategies for medical laboratory professionals and researchers to cross the “valley of death” and turn scientific discoveries into tangible clinical and societal impact.
