In today’s society, communication is central to our daily lives, whether at work or in our personal spheres. Yet many people often find themselves caught in “talk but no understanding” situations: words are spoken but not truly heard; intentions are expressed but misinterpreted. These communication barriers not only undermine work efficiency but can also strain precious relationships.

Effective communication is not an innate talent, but a skill that can be cultivated through learning and practice. In this talk, experienced psychotherapist Ms Jennifer Wong—who spent twenty years as a professional accountant in investment banking before transitioning to psychotherapy as her second career—will share how counselling techniques can be applied to everyday conversations and how they may also open up a pathway to counselling as a second career. Through case studies, personal experience, and interactive exercises, participants will learn to identify common communication barriers, practise active listening, and handle difficult conversations with greater confidence.

The session will also show how empathy and counselling-informed dialogue can bring more warmth, depth, and understanding to both workplace and personal relationships.
