MOU for Nurturing eSports Talents Signed by HKU SPACE and MEGA ESports

In order to nurture the eSports talents to support the growth of this emerging industry, HKU SPACE has made its latest move in signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the MEGA ESports, the premier eSports company in Southeast Asia, on 12 October 2018 with an aim to enhance the exchange opportunities for the “Diploma in eSports Science” programme and widen students’ international perspectives.
Professor William K.M. Lee, Director of HKU SPACE and Mr William Hsu, Chief Executive Officer of MEGA ESports, officiated the signing ceremony.
It is not the first MOU signed with the eSports industry leaders. The School now adds the MEGA ESports to the School’s eSports partnerships, followed by Cyberport, E-Sports Association Hong Kong and Cyber Games Arena.
Professor William K.M. Lee, Director of HKU SPACE, said, “One of our core missions is to foster strategic partnership to promote lifelong learning for talents in fast-growing industry including eSports. Indeed, the signing of this MOU is a timely response to the expansion of eSports industry. This MOU commits us to work together more closely towards our common goal, the training of eSports talents. Each side will pursue many significant training activities, such as the promotion of industrial and academic exchange, and the promotion of job opportunities.”
Mr William Hsu, Chief Executive Officer of MEGA ESports, said, “MEGA’s focus and strong network in the Asean region gives us an advantage over our competitors, but we must also rely on the support and collaboration of partners to grow and develop our vision. We are building a new industry in this part of the world. Our collaboration with HKU SPACE is exciting for MEGA because allows us to work together on HKU SPACE’s Diploma in eSports Science. This includes further curriculum sharing, and student exchange programmes with Thai, Indonesian and Philipino students coming to HKU SPACE and HKU SPACE students going to Bangkok, Jakarta or to Manila. The potential is limitless.”
