On the 18th and 19th of March, an exciting Joint College 3-on-3 Basketball Competition between HKU SPACE Community College (CC) and HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Community College (HPSHCC) was held, with a total of 16 male teams from both colleges participating. Not only did this event mark a significant milestone in our remarkable collaboration, but it was also one of the initiatives of the shared student services in this academic year after the commencement of closer collaboration between the two colleges in 2024.
The competitions were extremely keen, with each team showcasing their skills and determination on the court. On the first day of the qualifying rounds, 8 teams of CC and 8 teams of HPSHCC competed in the knockouts to advance to the final. On the second day, 4 winning teams respectively from each college battled it out in a series of intense games, culminating in the highly anticipated gold and bronze medal matches. The event was a fantastic display of athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship, for students from both colleges met one another to make friends, competed in knockout games to win the championship, as well as demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills on the court.
The highlight of the event was the closing ceremony, where Professor William Lee, Director of HKU SPACE and College Principal of HPSHCC, was invited to present prizes to the winning teams. He delivered a speech, which was inspiring and motivating, to promote more integration between the two colleges in extra-curricular and academic aspects. It is expected to have more opportunities for the students and staff to connect, share, and grow together, realizing HKU SPACE a united community in the future.
Overall, the competition was the first-of-its-kind and one of the important joint college events in this academic year, fostering a sense of belonging in the students to their respective colleges and developing a positive friendship between the colleges. It was a memorable event that will be cherished by those who attended and participated in it.
