Highlights

The programme aims to introduce students to the professional terms and concepts consistent with the research literature in Applied Positive Psychology. It will also explore and encourage students to experiment on how to apply the fundamental core knowledge of character strengths, emotional intelligence, and growth mindset to unleash their potentials for personal growth and to facilitate positive relationships with others. Graduates who meet the criteria set by the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) may be eligible for professional membership in the association (https://ippanetwork.org/membership-overview).

On completion of the programme, students should be able to
 
  1. critically analyse the theories and historical underpinnings of applied positive psychology;
  2. describe the aims and scope of applied positive psychology;
  3. evaluate the concept of character strengths and identify their own character strength; and
  4. apply the principles, strategies and skills of applied positive psychology to enhance their mental health well-being.

Course participants’ progress is measured through a number of assessment components including:

Each student is required to complete 1,200 words report to illustrate how they apply the principles of positive psychology to handle their challenge in their everyday life.

3 – 6 students in 1 group, each group is required to prepare a 10-minute presentation based on applied positive psychology literature (weighting = 20%). They are required to submit a group report (1,200 words) after the presentation (weighting = 25%).

Award

Students who successfully pass* the programme are eligible for the “Certificate for Module (Applied Positive Psychology: Cultivating a Fulfilling Life)" awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE. 

* Passing the programme means students have to meet the following requirements:
•    Overall passing mark: 50%, and
•    Attendance Requirement: 70% of the total contact hours.

Ms Rosemarie Yau

Background

Rosemarie founded the Positive Psychology Practice Centre to promote the science behind Positive Psychology, from research to knowledge to work and life applications. She advocates lifelong learning, the cultivation of growth mindset in managers and leaders, and ways to improve the mental health and wellbeing of leaders and teams, in order to prolong their career/work life and optimize their potential for growth and success.

In the first half of her career, Rosemarie worked in multinational companies as Director of Communications at Nokia Greater China and Reader’s Digest Asia. She also worked in different management roles in Marketing and Public Affairs at British American Tobacco (BAT). 

Rosemarie holds two Master Degrees, one in Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from Anglia Ruskin University (UK) and the other in Coaching and Mentoring from Oxford Brookes University (UK). She is also a Graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Program, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Positive Organizational Psychology and Leadership. Her education includes studying positive psychology under Ilona Boniwell and Tal Ben-Shahar. Her primary interests include positive midlife transformation, positive aging and coaching psychology. Her dissertation topics were “How can Positive Psychology Coaching Support Chinese Female Midlife Managers in Hong Kong?” & “How Executives, Professionals andManagers can Flourish at Work Using Strengths?”.

Ms Ivy Cheung

Background

- Specializes in facilitating organizational development, talent growth, development methodologies, and engagement.

-  Working with leaders and participants from Organizations ranging from Fortune 100 MNCs to Local Leading Companies, in industries such as banking & finance, FMCG, health care, insurance, logistics, luxury brands, professional services, property development, retail, sourcing, telecommunications, and NGOs.

- 25 years experience in Organizational Transformation and Talent Development - Strategized extensive regional leadership development initiatives and led transformation programs; Pioneered multiple regional and global information systems in which included being Asia Project manager facilitating the implementation of a global integrated HR Information System (Workday) serving 10 geographies with ~9000 users in Asia and ~27,000 users worldwide.

- Holds an MSc in Organizational Behavior from the London University, an MBA from the University of Hull and a BA from the Hong Kong Baptist University.

- Accredited Organizational Coach, ICF - Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and a certified practitioner of Strengths Profile, MBTI Step I & II, Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA360), Hogan Assessment Inventories, FACET5 and OPQ.

- Native in Cantonese and fluent in English and Putonghua.

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment. 

  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
