The MSc Clinical Nursing is fully taught by staff from the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King’s College London.

Highlights

The Master of Science in Clinical Nursing (MSc Clinical Nursing)* is the first collaborative programme between HKU SPACE and King’s College London. It is a 2-year part-time master’s degree programme to offer Hong Kong students the opportunity to obtain a master’s degree award from King’s College London (King’s), which was ranked 1st in the UK and 2nd in the world in the subject of Nursing (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024). Hong Kong graduates will become King’s alumni, enhancing their career prospects, networking opportunities and global exposure. In addition, students will gain insights into the use of digital strategies in healthcare and be able to engage with institutional and wider cultures that promote patient safety.

Programme Objective

The programme aims to enable qualified nurses to become expert clinical decision makers, able to autonomously manage and lead contemporary health care practice, research and education in global healthcare settings. The programme supports nurses to progress to senior practitioner level and beyond by providing a flexible and adaptive framework from which they can acquire and demonstrate both generic transferable knowledge and competencies and those specific to their area of practice. On completion of the programme the nurse will be able to demonstrate mastery in clinical nursing practice in a variety of settings.

 

Programme Outline

Courses are divided into modules, and students on this course take modules totaling 180 credits over two academic years.

 

YEAR 1

Required modules

  • Evidence & Research as the Basis of Care (30 credits)
  • Patient Safety and Cultural Variance (30 credits)
  • Clinical Leadership (30 credits)

 

YEAR 2

Required modules:

  • Enhancing Clinical Practice Dissertation (60 credits)
  • Digital Health and Technology Solutions module (30 credits)

 

Assessment
Assessment for this programme is based on a combination of courseworks and written examinations.

 

Mode of Delivery
The programme is conducted in a distance learning mode; students attend online classes together with King’s students through King’s eLearning platform. Online classes will be conducted in the early evening, with group seminars held later in the evening local time.

 

Awards
Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded Master of Science in Clinical Nursing  by King’s College London.

Non-Local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance

The School is applying for exemption under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which these courses may lead.

Entry Requirements

Applicants shall:

1) hold a Bachelor degree 2:1 Honours or 80% or B or GPA of 3.0/4.0;

AND

2) hold a current valid registration as a nurse, with two years post-registration experience being desirable;

AND

3) meet the following English language requirements:

a) IELTS: 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill;

OR

b) TOEFL iBT: 92 overall with a minimum of 23 in writing and 20 in each of the other skills.

Payment Method
1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and the applicant’s name.. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying  “Course Application” on the envelope.  HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (course enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, continuing students of award-bearing programmes, if their programmes offer online service, may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay and Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolement Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circustance.
  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque or PPS (for online payment only) will normally be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will normally be reimbursed to the payment cardholder's credit card account.
  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be repsonsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to "HKU SPACE" to any of our enrolment centres.
