Solicitor in England
To qualify and work as a Solicitor in England and Wales you normally need to pass both parts of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, known as SQE1 and SQE2, and complete two years qualifying work experience. But students who take HKU SPACE's PCLL pathways and qualify as solicitors in Hong Kong can benefit from a much smoother pathway to the UK, by using their Hong Kong experience to seek exemption from both the 16 SQE2 asssessments and the two years qualifying work experience as well. This means, in many cases, it may be easier to qualify as a Solicitor in England and Wales via the Hong Kong pathway.
HKU SPACE's popular Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law and University of London LL.B. Preparation Courses are also excellent preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination route to qualifying as a lawyer in England and Wales, covering most of the foundation areas of law needed to pass the SQE1, and so greatly increase your chances of getting a good result.
You may also benefit from a SQE Preparation Elective on our MMU pathway that starts on the Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law, subject to validation and student demand.*
* Introduction of SQE Preparation Elective on LLB (Hons) Hong Kong currently under discussion with Manchester Metropolitan University. Different course fees may apply.
The University of London LL.B. Preparation Courses ,Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law (Common Professional Examination) and LLB (Hons) Hong Kong are exempted courses under the Non Local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognize any qualification to which these courses may lead.
