The programme is designed to train students’ proficiency in both English and Chinese by fostering bilingual competency within the fields of communication and translation. In addition, the curriculum integrates foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) applications relevant to language, communication, and translation studies, preparing students to utilise emerging technologies in their professional practice. The programme aims to:
- Introduce students to the basic letters of the alphabet and how to join them.
- Enable students to use very simple phrases as well as sentences in basic conversation, e.g. introducing oneself, saying hello, etc.
- Familiarise students with the very basic grammar and vocabulary needed for very simple communication, e.g. noun genders, nominal sentence, interrogatives, etc.
- Provide students with the techniques needed to listen to very simplified, everyday dialogues when spoken clearly and slowly.
- Introduce students to some areas of Arab culture such as names, greetings, festivals and places.
- Enable students to extract information from very simple written texts such as forms and brief notes.

課程概括
香港大學專業進修學院之日語課程分為「日語證書(入門)」、「日語證書(基礎)」、「日語證書(中級)」、「日語證書(高中級)」、「日語證書(高級)」、「日語文憑」、「日語高等文憑」及「日語傳意及日本文化高等文憑」。各級時數為120小時。
本課程通過進一步學習各種動詞收變化句如被動、假定、意志、命令、授受動詞等不文化句型，以進一步提高學員聽、講、寫、讀的能力。完成首兩月的學習後，學員可達到日本語能力試N5之水平，緊接開始學習N4程度的內容。
