香港大學專業進修學院(HKU SPACE)提供基礎至文憑的英語課程,以配合學員不同的教育背景、語文程度及學習需要。

學院的通用英語(General English)課程,重點教授語法、寫作、拼音、聆聽會話及詞彙運用。大部份課程由資深外籍導師任教。課堂活動多元化,包括角色扮演及遊戲等,使學員能夠活學活用。部分課程設有網上教材,鼓勵網上及流動學習(e-learning & m-learning),讓學員可在任何時間或地點學習英語。

此外,學院在商業英語(Business English)的教學極具經驗。導師均是業內人士,教授有關撰寫報告、電郵、演辭、業務磋商、洽談用語等技巧,務求提升在職學員的自信,在不同場合靈活地運用英語。

所有完成英語課程的學員,可透過學院參加英國劍橋大學商業英語水平測試(BULATS Tests)— 其測試成績備受多家企業僱主採納為考勤英語程度的指標。

This 30-hour course gives learners more opportunities to enhance their speaking and listening skills. The course aims to consolidate learner's knowledge of grammar and vocabulary;  widen their understanding of idiomatic and colloquial English; and develop their speaking and listening skills to help them deal with naturally spoken English.

This short course is designed for advanced English speakers who wish to improve their professional image by modifying their accent to sound more like a native British English speaker. Students will typically be employed or possess an interest in journalism, public relations, marketing, media and communications and live (simultaneous) translation, but motivated applicants in other fields will be considered. The determined student should finish with an understanding of his/her pronunciation ‘issues’ and of how to modify his/her accent over time, after the course has finished.

This course takes a formalist approach to the teaching of literature and will cover the following:
•    An introduction to the elements of poetry: figures of speech (metaphors, similes, personification); rhyme and rhythm; voice, speaker, and listener;
•    An introduction to three different types of poetry: narrative poems, dramatic poems, and lyric poems; 
•    An explication of how the elements of poetry function in these three types of poetry;
•    A discussion of a set of ready-made teaching materials (written by the course tutor himself) and how they can be used in the classroom.

The Bible is a source of inspiration that has given birth to many great works of literature throughout the last 20 centuries; an understanding of the Book is therefore of paramount importance to students who are interested in literary studies. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the Bible as a literary work, as well as a collection of books written in different genres. It will begin with an introduction to the historical and geographical backgrounds of the Old and New Testaments; and will then focus on specific books and genres.

This course takes a socio-historical approach to literature, and examines the events and developments in American society through the works of eight writers.  It begins with a short introduction to American history between 1914 and 1945, and goes on to look at different aspects of this historical period in the light of several poems and short stories, as well as a memoir and a novella. The course includes a mixture of lecture and discussion.
