The application of molecular genomics has advanced disease characterization and genetic susceptibility testing to an unprecedented fast pace, thus bringing new challenges to Laboratory Medicine. Moreover, genomic profiling has become an integral part of modern medical diagnostics, which is empowered by new technologies to uncover findings of clinical significance. The future of Laboratory Medicine is now directed towards Precision Medicine as a new paradigm for disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
