  • Mr Chua Hwee Meng Kelvin (Registered Industrial-Organizational Psychologist Associate Fellow, Hong Kong Psychological Society)

Mr Chua Hwee Meng Kelvin

Mr Kelvin Chua is a part-time lecturer at HKU SPACE. He has deep hands-on industry experience, having worked for AIG and AXA as a department head in Human Resources. In 2011, his department won the AIG Team Achievement Award for outstanding performance. He also has extensive management consulting experience with Accenture, Aon Hewitt, Gartner, PwC and Willis Towers Watson, serving a broad range of clients in multiple industries and functions across strategy, organization and operations. His work focuses on leadership transformation aimed at improving organizational effectiveness and the roles of stress, coping and social support systems in health and wellbeing. He has advised top executives and policymakers, helping them to achieve clarity and purpose during periods of stressful organizational transformation and pandemics. Mr Chua is a Registered Industrial-Organizational Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the Hong Kong Psychological Society. He has received accreditation as a Certified Compensation Professional from the WorldatWork. He holds a BA in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and MA in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. He was sponsored by Aon Hewitt to complete the Human Resource Executive Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

The recent Covid lockdown has caused much distress in the workplace with employees feeling disconnected, mentally stressed and worried about their future. 

Employers must face this, invest in employee wellbeing and support employee's choice for them to thrive post-pandemically. Job insecurity can result in emotional exhaustion, and will have a negative impact on an individual's mental health and impact on work performance. Organizations need to support the needs of a diverse workforce and consider the impact of the pandemic on job security across different sectors. 

What does employee wellbeing mean today? How can managers and Human Resources help employees to cope? This talk could bring you to understand what workplace psychology is on enhancing employees’ wellbeing.
