Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law (Common Professional Examination)
LLB (Hons)
Become a lawyer in HK and UK - CPE and LLB (Hons) Hong Kong

HKU SPACE is excited to announce that students starting the 2026 intake of the  Graduate Diploma of English and Hong Kong Law (Common Professional Examination) (CPE) will be guaranteed entry to the LLB(Hons)* in the optional Year 3 and that, as part of the LLB, they will now be able to study a new SQE Preparation Elective approved by Manchester Metropolitan University.

Students can enjoy a new pathway to the SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) which prepares you for legal practice as a Solicitor in England & Wales.  The examination is divided into two stages: SQE1 and SQE2. SQE1 focuses on practical legal knowledge, while SQE2 assesses practical legal skills. In addition to passing these two stages, candidates are required to complete two years of full-time (or equivalent) Qualifying Work Experience.

The following exciting event is coming up:

What skills are law firms looking for in their future trainees?

 📍Where: Zoom

🕗 When: Wednesday 4th March, 12.30pm LIVE from the UK [4th March, 8:30pm HKT]

What do law firms really look for in future solicitors? This panel session brings together experienced speakers, including practising solicitors and early careers recruiters to discuss the skills, attributes and behaviours needed to succeed as a solicitor. This session is aimed at undergraduates and paralegals who are looking to apply for trainee roles within legal organisations and wanting to understand what skills are needed beyond your academic knowledge. The session will help you recognise the key competencies that firms are looking for and focus on how to develop them during your studies and early work experience.

Study all the HK and English law subjects you need to progress towards becoming a lawyer in both Hong Kong and England & Wales on the  CPE  leading to the LLB (Hons). In 2020, more than 75% of our applicants were successfully admitted to the PCLL* and were able to avoid the time and expense of taking the many extra conversion exams required of graduates of other English law courses.

With thousands of alumni in Hong Kong, no other law programme of this kind offers the same kinds of advantages in following such a wide range of career paths in both Hong Kong and England & Wales. That’s why, for three decades, the CPE has been Hong Kong's most popular part-time route towards legal practice.

Please see the below for more information and we look forward to your attendance!
