Raymond Lai
Dr Raymond Lai, Adjunct Lecturer, HKU SPACE. Dr Raymond Lai received his Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from The University of Hong Kong in 1999. He joined the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong in 2000 as an Honorary Assistant Professor and as a Lecturer. He is the author or co-author of more than 40 papers in high-impact factors journals and more than 70 conference contributions. His research interest is about the study of development and regeneration during cellular plasticity using a variety of approaches such as gene manipulation, pharmacological or surgical interventions. In addition to research, Dr Lai has been involved in teaching physiology and pharmacology to medical and nursing students for more than 20 years, and providing professional service or teaching to various societies and grant institutions. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer in HKU SPACE since 2009. He teaches part-time students a broad range of biomedical topics including human physiology, disease processes and their treatment, clinical microbiology and scientific writing. He has achieved the Outstanding Teaching Awards at HKUSPACE in 2022.

The immune system is an amazingly intricate and complex system which involves the non-specific and specific defense mechanisms. This topic describes how these two mechanisms work together to keep us healthy and protect us from the flu. Particular focus will be made to delineate the importance of maintaining a strong immune system to support the healthy function of the lungs and upper respiratory system. Ways to boost our immune system against the flu will also be highlighted.
