Spring heralds the prime season for learning, and the HKU SPACE ALUMNI curated a series of engaging activities during spring to reunite with alumni and friends. These events aimed to share learning experiences and offer a delightful encounter with art.
Tai chi for a healthy lifestyle
On 10 May, the ALUMNI collaborated with the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies (HKAPMC) to host a “Tai Chi and Health Fun Day” session at Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College (HPSHCC). Notably, the School introduced the first part-time Certificate in Housing Management programme in Hong Kong back in 1969. In response to the Government's mandate for professional qualifications at the level of Housing Manager and beyond, the School has nurtured numerous housing management professionals for the community, many of whom are members of HKAPMC.
This event also marked the 35th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony and Fun Day for HKAPMC, drawing over 190 alumni and property management practitioners. The Kick-off Ceremony was graced by Professor William K.M. Lee, Director of HKU SPACE, Dr Edmond Cheng, President of HKAPMC and Vice-President of the ALUMNI Council, and Mr Aaron Hui, Honorary Secretary of the ALUMNI Council. The event featured a Tai Chi demonstration and workshop by the Hong Kong Yang's Taijiquan Fed Ltd. Additionally, the Occupational Safety and Health Council set up a health assessment services booth that offered various body metric tests to promote a culture of healthy living among participants.
ALUMNI networking luncheon
To enhance camaraderie among alumni, the ALUMNI hosted a luncheon on 17 March at the Artyzen Club, with over 50 guests in attendance. During the luncheon, Mr William Au and Professor William K.M. Lee, Director of HKU SPACE, delivered welcoming addresses, followed by the presentation of certificates to our esteemed Honorary Member, Professor Edward Chen. The event featured a sharing session on AI and Digital Development by Honorary Secretary Mr Aaron Hui, along with a digital game reviewing the history and development of HKU SPACE ALUMNI, presented by Council Member Mr Ivan Chan. The luncheon culminated in a highly anticipated lucky draw, serving as a valuable platform for the Subject Alumni Groups and the ALUMNI to strengthen connections.
Encountering art and exploring a world-class laboratory
The 10th edition of Art Central took place at the Central Harbourfront starting from 26 March. On the first day of the fair, the ALUMNI hosted a Guided Tour to Art Central 2025, providing alumni with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the captivating artworks. Alongside acclaimed installations, videos, and performances, the fair showcased the “Legend” project, a homage to the early pioneers of the pre-1970 art scene. Featuring over 500 masterpieces by artists from across the globe, the fair was a celebration of artistic diversity.
Hong Kong Biomedical Technology Support Centre is dedicated to furnishing top-tier laboratory facilities to enhance clients' research endeavours and to position Hong Kong as a global hub for biomedical technology. On 19 July, the ALUMNI organised a visit to the Incu-Bio Lab for alumni to explore the biobank, genomics, and other cutting-edge biomedical equipment. This visit aimed to provide participants with insights into the Centre's operations and its impactful contributions.
Seizing business opportunities and understanding dementia
With the surge in popularity of digital payment, the School collaborated with the HKU SPACE Financial Planning Alumni Society to host a talk titled “Unlock Digital Payment Risks to Win Business Opportunities” on 27 March. Mr Michael Chan, Security and Risk Director of AsiaPay, delivered the talk, while Dr Angus Yip, President of the HKU SPACE Financial Planning Alumni Society, participated in the Q&A session.
Moreover, as global life expectancies rise and the incidence of Cognitive Disorder (Dementia) escalates, the ALUMNI invited Dr Lau Ka Hin, Specialist in Psychiatry, to present a talk on “Review & Update on Cognitive Disorder (Dementia)” on 4 July. Dr Lau delved into the symptoms of the disease and elucidated strategies to enhance patients' quality of life and alleviate caregivers' stress through proactive treatment and compassionate care.
