On 4 August 2025, the School hosted the Naming Ceremony of the William Au Weng Hei Student Common Room at the Kowloon East Campus to honour the generosity and support of Mr William Au. The event was graced by the presence of Mr Au and his family, Professor William K.M. Lee, Director of HKU SPACE, and Professor William Leung, Chairman of the HKU SPACE Foundation, who officiated the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Professor Lee expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr Au: "Mr Au has consistently shown generous support to the School. In addition to this naming honour, he has made numerous donations and provided invaluable advice to the School through serving as the Chairman of the Fundraising Sub-committee and President of the HKU SPACE ALUMNI. In recognition of his contributions, Mr Au was honoured as an Honorary Fellow in 2018. We are immensely grateful for his tireless support and generosity." Professor Leung also acknowledged that Mr Au's contributions have alleviated significant financial burdens for many exceptional students, enabling them to achieve their full academic potential and prepare for even greater successes in the future. Mr Au, in turn, expressed his appreciation to the School for having the Student Common Room named after him, stating: " I cherish the remarkable opportunities to contribute to HKU SPACE and hope that my donation inspires each of you to give in whatever way you can, fostering a culture of generosity that strengthens our community."
