Course DESCRIPTION

This 20-week course is designed to help students progress from CEFR B1 to B2+. It includes 400 hours of classroom instruction and 400 hours of independent study on HKU SPACE Online Universal Learning Platform (SOUL), providing comprehensive coverage of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar. Students will progress from lower intermediate English skills to upper intermediate for exam readiness. Students are required to complete Blocks 1-4 during the 20-week intensive training.

Weekly Schedule

The following presents the weekly online schedule for EBC students:

Tentative Course Commencement Date :  4 May 2026 - 20 September 2026 (For admission to the 2026 November intake)

Completion Requirements for Each Block

• Fulfil the 80% attendance requirement ; and
• Pass 60% or above in the overall course assessments
          o Weekly quizzes, short writing tasks, etc.
          o Assessments:
              - Speaking
              - Listening
              - Reading
              - Writing
              - Integrated Task

*Students who fail to meet the block-completion requirements will be asked to re-take the unsuccessful block within 12 months should there be a class available.

Minimum Entry Requirement  (For admission to EBC I)

Applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as:
i.     an overall band of 5.0 with no subtests lower than 4.5 in the IELTS; or
ii.    a score of 61 in the internet-based TOEFL; or
iii.   equivalent qualifications.

* Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on individual merit.
* Applicants should submit their official report issued by the testing organisation/ awarding body as their supporting document(s).
