HKU SPACE held the naming ceremony for the “Chinachem Group Lecture Room” on 26 January 2016 in appreciation of the generous donation of HK$250,000 from the Group to aid full-time students in financial needs.

Officiating guests at the naming ceremony included Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director and CEO of Chinachem Group and Professor William Lee, Director of HKU SPACE.

At the naming ceremony, Mr Yeung said that the Chinachem Group sees education as an important element in the successful transformation of our rapidly changing world. In keeping with this belief and accordance with the wishes of the late Chairman, Madam Nina Kung, the Chinachem Charitable Foundation aims to “give back to society from which we draw.” Mr Yeung hoped that the donation from the Group would not only ease the financial difficulties of many students, but also inspire them to enjoy the benefits of the bursary scheme to achieve their goals and reach their full potential in life.

Professor Lee expressed his deepest gratitude to the Chinachem Group for their support. And said that many full time students in HKU SPACE are less able to benefit from the public’s generosity since many individuals and companies prefer to make their donations to the publicly-funded Universities as they also receive Matching Grants offered by the University Grants Committee. The Chinachem Group’s support would make a huge difference to the HKU SPACE students and encourage them to advance in their studies.
