Mr Malcolm Merry

Mr Malcolm Merry, a preeminent legal scholar and practitioner with over four decades of experience in Hong Kong, is widely recognized as an authority on Hong Kong conveyancing law. Specializing in property litigation throughout his distinguished career, he has helped shape legal education as former Department Head of Professional Education in the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong. His seminal works, Hong Kong Tenancy Law and Building Management in Hong Kong, stand as definitive references in the field.

Dr Tommy Ho
Barrister-at-Law (Hong Kong)

Dr Ho was called to the Bar in 1996 and practises both civil and criminal law. His expertise is in land law and conveyancing with special interest in the law relevant to the New Territories including Chinese customs, small houses and adverse possession. In criminal practice, Dr Ho is regularly briefed to prosecute and defend at the District Court and Magistrates’ courts. In addition to his legal practice, Dr Ho is a Principal Programme Director of the College of Humanities and Law (“the College”) of the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education. He is responsible for overseeing the in-house legal training programmes for various government departments of the HKSAR.

Ms Liang Yuk Han Joyce

Joyce is a Hong Kong qualified solicitor since February 2018. She was awarded her Bachelor of Business Administration (with major in Finance) from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Bachelor of Laws from the City University of Hong Kong, and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong. Specializing in the practice area of real estates since admission as a Hong Kong qualified solicitor, Joyce has broad experience in in real estate matters, including sale and purchase of real estate and real estate finance, providing advice on provisions of land grants, land-related applications to the government, land resumption and exchange, as well as compliance with the Residential Properties (First-hand Sales) Ordinance.

Dr Devin Lin
Attorney at Law (PRC, California)

Devin is a dual-qualified Attorney at Law admitted in both PRC and California. He also serves as a Program Director at HKU SPACE. His academic research primarily focuses on comparative studies in construction law, land law and property law. In legal practice, Dr. Lin specializes in real estate and construction, cross-border dispute resolution, family office, and immigration planning. As a legal commentator, he regularly publishes articles on legal education and law-culture intersections in Mingpao, South China Morning Post and China Daily.

Ms Kinsey Kang

Kinsey graduated from City University of Hong Kong and the University of Oxford. She was called to the Bar in 2012 and obtained the GBA lawyer qualification in 2022. Her practice area includes company, commercial and employment disputes. She has developed a substantial practice in cross-border commercial litigation and international arbitration. She also constantly provides HK law opinion in court proceedings and arbitration conducted in the PRC.

Mr Adrian Wong
Judicial Associate, Court of Appeal

Adrian is a judicial associate in the Court of Appeal of the High Court of Hong Kong. His focus is on interlocutory appellate matters and works directly with judges since 2017. Previously, he was a practicing litigation solicitor in Hong Kong with a focus in commercial litigation. He graduated with a Master of Law from University College London in the United Kingdom. He received his Bachelor of Law and PCLL practicing certificate in City University of Hong Kong. Adrian was born in Hong Kong and subsequently moved to Toronto, Canada, where he received his primary education.

Ms Denise Or

Denise was called to the Bar in 2022 and specialises in criminal law. Her broader practice also includes competition law, restitution, asset recovery, and land matters. She obtained her Juris Doctor, ranking first in her class, and her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) with Dean’s List with Distinction from City University of Hong Kong. She later completed the Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at the University of Oxford, where she studied Comparative Human Rights, Comparative Equality Rights, Restitution, and Conflict of Laws. In 2024, she was awarded the Patrick Yu Memorial Scholarship, which recognises aspiring criminal barristers.

Ms Joyce Ma

Joyce is a Hong Kong corporate and commercial solicitor with over 7 years of experience at several prestigious law firms, including BigLaw and Silver Circle. She advises multinational corporations and financial institutions across the PRC, APAC, and globally on complex legal matters, including IPOs, M&A, investment and securities compliance, corporate governance, and commercial litigation. She holds a Juris Doctor and PCLL from City University of Hong Kong, along with a Certificate in Political and Public Administration from the Chinese Academy of Governance. She will be participating in the teaching of Head III Commercial and Company Law for the OLQE series.

Mr Ivan Tsang

Ivan is a Hong Kong qualified solicitor with rich legal experience in both private practice and financial institution. He is now a managing associate of Dentons. He focuses on banking and finance practice, covering various types of financing transactions, including syndicated loans, real estate financing, acquisition financing and securitisation. He also advises on other financial regulatory and licensing matters. He previously worked in Deacons and equities legal team of Credit Suisse. Ivan will be teaching Head III for our OLQE Workshops.

Ms Cynthia Ang
SOLICITOR (ENGLAND AND WALES, HONG KONG)

Cynthia is a practising solicitor admitted in both Hong Kong and England & Wales. She trained at a Magic Circle law firm in Hong Kong and later practised at international U.S. law firms, advising on private equity and M&A transactions across the Asia-Pacific region. Cynthia holds a Master’s degree in Law and Finance from the University of Oxford, graduating with distinction. She earned her undergraduate law degree from Monash University with First Class Honours and completed the PCLL at the University of Hong Kong. She is currently a partner at a boutique law firm in Hong Kong, focusing on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. Her clients range from early-stage ventures to mature companies preparing for listing. In addition to practice, she has taught contract law and legal skills, and maintains research interests in fund regulation and private market structures.

Mr Fung Lim Wai Henry
Barrister-in-Law (England and Wales, Hong Kong)
Mr Fung was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2003 and admitted as a barrister in Hong Kong in 2008. His present occupation is an Administrator of the Duty Lawyer Service. Mr. Fung predominantly practiced in crime as defence counsel and prosecutor-on-fiat for the Department of Justice. Between March 2020 and December 2023, he was appointed by the Judiciary as a Deputy Magistrate. Mr. Fung is an accredited mediator and also practiced in civil litigation specializing in tort, conveyancing, and company law. Since 2013, Mr. Fung had been a tutor and exam assessor of civil advocacy in the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) programme in the University of Hong Kong.
