Keynote Speaker Session: Metamorphosis: Case Study of a City’s Evolving Aspirations as Reflected in Urban Planning at Kai Tak
Speaker: Mr. Jeff Bent, Managing Director, Worldwide Cruise Terminals
Time: 19:00-20:00
Hong Kong’s airport moved from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok in 1998. Plans for the Kai Tak District, 323 hectares of prime waterfront land on Victoria Harbor, were debated for years before the first buildings opened in 2013—the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal at one end of the former runway, and two residential complexes at the other. They were debated further afterwards. The rest of the district is still largely under development. City planning reflects needs and aspirations of the populace. How have our aspirations changed since 1998, and what can we look forward to when the district is completed?
