Social Sciences are broad disciplines that examine factors in affecting individuals and theories in explaining issues of the society. It helps us explore many hot social issues in Hong Kong, such as antisocial behaviours, high-stress educational system, domestic violence, marital strife, political turmoil and elderly welfare. The School continuously seeks innovative programmes to address these concerns, including short courses in negotiation training, conflict management, adventure-based leadership, and similar targeted programmes are also extended to top-up Social Sciences degree in part-time mode.
Applied psychology is the use of theory and findings in psychology to solve practical problems in important areas of the human environment, including education, health, the workplace, and so on. This programme is designed to help participants apply cutting-edge theory to real-world situations. It is made up of different registered psychologists and other related specialists to deliver a powerful curriculum that explores a range of human behaviors, including how to motivate individuals and organizations, how to assess and improve performance and how to pursue healthy lives.
This is a part-time degree programme offered locally by Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) in collaboration with HKU SPACE. It offers students an opportunity to study different social science disciplines such as psychology, sociology, cultural geography and politics, which enable them to develop a detailed understanding of, and the research skills to investigate, the social world, relationships within it and the social forces that act on us all. This knowledge and specialist skills will be particularly useful to employers across all sectors.

The course aims to give participants an overview of the development of the funeral industry not just in Hong Kong but also in various parts of the world, emphasizing the global trend, challenges and issues faced by the industry, along with related opportunities in Hong Kong. Participants will be introduced to modern funeral concepts, the service-oriented philosophy, and the integration of technology, environment, and art to facilitate sustainable, modern funerals. In addition, the course aims to acquaint participants with the skills involved in communicating with the bereaved, not just covering the dos and don’ts in the process but allowing more idea exchange and discussion.

The Advanced Certificate in Psychology provides a comprehensive overview of the scientific study of thought and behaviours, We have supported many graduates of this course to pursue master's degree in psychology/counselling in Hong Kong and the rest of the world.

The Certificate in Positive Psychology programme provides an introduction to the core concepts and fundamental principles of positive psychology, including its philosophical approach and its practical applications. Throughout the programme, students explore the research and practice that make up the foundation of positive psychology. The implementation of positive psychology based exercises may contribute to positive mental wellness, increasing psychological assets and resourcefulness.
The Training Programme aims to strengthen the capacity of the social workers of community mental health service units with a view to enhancing early identification of persons with mental health needs and early intervention in handling complicated cases with mental health issues.
The Training Programme is consisted of 3 courses, all aim at equipping participants with knowledge and skills in working with persons with mental health needs and their families/carers.
