The Postgraduate Certificate in Building Engineering aims to equip students necessary engineering knowledge and technical competencies to solve problems and make engineering decisions in the construction processes of complex building projects.
 
The programme is an approved top up course in meeting the academic requirements for the Corporate Membership in the Building Discipline of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)*.

The programme is designed for part-time study of around 6 months. Classes will normally be scheduled for two weeknights per week, from 7:00 p.m.  – 10:00 p.m.. In addition to normal lectures, there are non-lecture activities such as laboratory sessions that may be scheduled on weekends

The programme aims at introducing students with different commonly used geophysical methods and in-situ testing and sampling techniques, including methods for monitoring water level, penetration tests, land and marine geophysical surveys and downhole logging. Student are expected to gain an understanding on the applicability and limitations of the methods in various geotechnical situations.

The programme aims at introducing fundamental description and the classification of soils; mechanical concepts including the effective stress concept, strength of soils, consolidation, settlement and testing procedures.

本課程旨在使學生了解住宅和辦公環境對周邊環境的影響，並探討城市規劃的基本概念及其演變。
 

完成課程後，學生應能夠：
1.   分析住宅環境和辦公環境的環境特點；
2.   闡述城市規劃的原則；及
3.   探討城市規劃的演變過程及宜居社區設計。

The programme is intended to provide students with an understanding of contemporary smart building technologies and equip them with the knowledge and skills that are essential for property and facilities management.
 

This programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills of contemporary smart building technologies. It enables students to effectively carry out the roles of managing smart buildings, hence increasing their job efficiency, improving the users’ quality of life and enhancing the core business productivity.
 

The programme provides an overview of the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental management system and equips students with a comprehensive understanding for internal auditing based on the ISO 19011:2018 – Guidelines for auditing management systems. The programme also covers the ISO 14064:2019 Greenhouse gases standard for students to recognise both international standards for emission accounting and Hong Kong’s guidelines for carbon auditing.

Upon completion of the programme, students will be equipped with the knowledge required to conduct internal audits for organisations in accordance with both ISO standards.

The programme provides comprehensive training on the ISO 50001:2018 Energy management system, and equips students with the skills required to conduct internal audits in accordance with the ISO 19011:2018 – Guidelines for auditing management systems. Students will also acquire knowledge of Hong Kong’s Building Energy Efficiency Ordinance (Cap. 610) and its code of practices in energy auditing for concerned building systems.

This programme aims to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in contemporary technologies relevant to existing building inspections, preparing them to undertake complex professional tasks in the field according to regulatory requirements from the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme (MBIS). It also aims to elevate students’ professionalism by formalising standard operating procedures, code of ethics, and industry standards, while emphasising collaboration with other professions to meet their specific inspection needs.

本課程旨在為香港住宅物業準買家及有志投身物業檢驗的人士提供基礎知識與實務技巧。課程內容涵蓋新建住宅及二手物業的檢驗標準、驗收流程、設備操作及物業品質評估，協助學員掌握專門技術，確保物業符合安全與法規。同時， 課程亦適合建築及工程領域的從業員，將所學的課程內容應用於施工及修葺過程中，以加強學員對品質管理與控制的能力。
