The School provides a wide range of programmes in response to public interest, covering such topics as food safety, pesticide safety, science communication, landscape design and environmental improvement to promote quality of life. Courses are offered at varying levels to provide students with both sound fundamental knowledge and advanced teaching designed to develop professional competencies.
Additionally, in view of global urbanization and the increasing concern on promotion of green measures, programmes related to environmental studies are offered to students pursuing training in green management, sustainability and green building.
This programme is for those with a background education in the biological sciences or medical laboratory science disciplines wishing to progress to degree or honours degree level. The programme provides students with a firm foundation in the biological sciences together with specialist knowledge in the area of biological testing including microbiology, biochemical and toxicological analyses. It will be taught through face-to-face lectures/tutorials, online tutorials and hands-on practicals.

In recent years there has been a marked increase in demand for quality landscaped outdoor areas. To meet the growing need for a part-time training programme in landscape design, HKU SPACE is offering a one-year Certificate Course in Landscape Design. This programme is intended to provide comprehensive coverage of different aspects of landscape design through lectures, site visits, computer workshops and case studies.

With theories, practices and real-life case studies, this programme provides students with the basic knowledge and skills in sustaining cultural landscape asset, including ecology, sustainable agriculture, community engagement and partnerships between different stakeholders and sectors.
This course provides a hands-on overview of best practices during onsite IAQ field sampling to attendees without previous formal microbiology training, and satisfies the minimum training requirements for being an HKIAS approved inspector for IAQ microbiological parameter field sampling.
