ESG Strategy in Hong KongEvent Recap
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investing is one of the fastest growing areas in recent years and has been shifted from a niche area of investment into the mainstream. This is certainly an investment market segment that Hong Kong should put more focus on. While it is encouraging to see certain rules and initiatives in place to promote ESG reporting and integration, a strategy combining incentives and regulations needs to be developed to support the sustainable development of the industry.
To share practical viewpoints about ESG, HKU SPACE and Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) organised a seminar on 25 Feb 2019 under FSDC Practitioner Speakers Series: Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy for Hong Kong. It was co-organised by CFA Institute, Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts (HKSFA) and World Institute of Sustainable Development Planners (WISDP).
During the seminar, Ms. Mary Leung, Head of Advocacy, Asia Pacific, CFA Institute, acted as the moderator to lead the panel discussion on ESG strategy. Mr. Pat-nie Woo, Partner of Business Reporting and Sustainability at KPMG, provided his practical experience from the perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility. Moreover, Mr. Stephan Wong, Deputy Executive Director & Head of Public Policy Institute, Our Hong Kong Foundation, shared his academic and professional insights in various ESG issues. The seminar was ended with loud applause and participants enjoyed a fruitful discussion that evening at HKU SPACE.
