Welcome to our European Language website.

Our main languages are Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese, but we do also offer courses in other languages such as Arabic, Greek, Latin, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Finnish and Dutch.

Our award-bearing courses, which last 120 hours each, are mostly CEF-certified, with well-developed curricula and assessment systems which cover various aspects of the European languages including reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and vocabulary. 

Besides, we have shorter courses of just 30 hours, more casual and non-exam based, such as courses for travellers or for beginners, courses in the mornings or during the weekends.

Finally, you can´t miss out on our fun workshops, such as Italian Fashion, Food and Drink, Cooking courses and our several cultural gatherings during the year for each of our main languages!

Our teachers are passionate and committed to the language learning and will guide you through your journey at HKU SPACE!

This course prepares students for the French benchmark examination, Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française (DELF) at the level of A2 according to the CEFR.
The DELF A2 is a diploma granted by the French Ministry of National Education and certifies French skills at A2 level. The diploma is recognised all over the world and valid for life. From 2025 onwards, DELF is the stipulated official French examination for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). HKDSE students who learn the French language as a Category C subject must take the DELF examination at level A2 or above within the two years preceding the HKDSE they sit.

This course continues on from Beginners´ Swedish. Through our immersive and communicative methodology, the participants can enjoy plenty of opportunities to listen to and speak the Swedish language whilst improving grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation at the same time. Topics include directions around town, transport, talking about food, time, daily routines and family. The students will keep practising the language in an interactive class environment, while learning about the culture of the Swedish-speaking world (with continuous references to Sweden, Åland Islands and Finland). There is a relaxed and supportive learning environment and the course is not exam-based.

This course is designed to cater for advanced-level students who have completed all the HKU SPACE German levels or equivalent elsewhere and who wish to keep practising the language in an interactive class environment, whilst at the same time learning more about the culture of the German-speaking world. Students will engage with authentic texts from magazines, newspapers, songs, TV, films and so on through discussion and group work. They will, as a result, improve their oral communication skills and also their range of vocabulary. There will be a relaxed and supportive learning environment and the course is not exam-based.

This course is designed to cater for complete beginners of the Swedish language. The course will offer students a first taste of Swedish, focusing on oral communication, basic grammar and lexicon. The students will practise the language in an interactive class environment, whilst at the same time learning a little about the culture of Sweden and its habitants. The course is not exam-based.

This course continues on from our Intermediate Swedish 1 and 2. It is designed for students who already possess a basic knowledge of the Swedish language (written and spoken) and wish to continue their learning. Students will move into an A2.2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and practise the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They will learn to use the structures of “indrekt tal” (indirect speech), “huvudsats och bisats” (main clause and subordinate clause), and “satsadverbial” (clause adverbial), dealing with topics such as nature and relationships. Students will gain more exposure to the Swedish culture in a relaxed and supportive learning environment, and the course is not exam-based.

This course continues on from Beginners' Swedish 2 and is designed for beginners who already possess a basic knowledge of Swedish and want to continue their learning. Students will move into an A1.2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and practise the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They will learn to use the structures of Preteritum (Past form) and Futurum (future form), personal pronouns (subjects and objects), how to talk about plans on phone, etc. Students will gain more exposure to the Swedish culture in a relaxed and supportive learning environment, and the course is not exam-based.

This is an opportunity for advanced users of Spanish to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The course design is based on a textbook, which is supplemented with authentic materials in teaching where appropriate, such as magazine and newspaper articles, film, TV and literature. The main focus is oral communication with practice in small groups. The medium of instruction is Spanish.
