Highlights

The Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing Programme is to equip those marketing practitioners or executives without an academic marketing qualification with practical marketing knowledge including strategic marketing planning, consumer behaviour, basic Google analytics, social media and digital marketing, and public relations. Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to handle marketing tasks to achieve the business goals.
  • For those who come from non-marketing background but have to take up marketing responsibilities in their jobs, this programme will help you build up a solid foundation in marketing and turn your practical experience into tangible marketing qualifications.
  • The programme is recognized by the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing (hereafter ‘HKIM’).

The Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing programme comprises the following six modules that can be completed in 1 year (max 2 years) on a part-time basis.

  • Marketing Planning and Strategy in Digital Era
  • Consumer Behaviour
  • Digital and Social Media Marketing
  • Public Relations and Event Marketing
  • Google Analytics for Business
  • Content Marketing and Digital Video Production

Regular Lectures:
Weekdays 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm (Occasionally on Saturday morning or afternoon)

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the programme, students should be able to:

  • apply the concepts and practical skills in social media and digital marketing to develop marketing solutions for business;
  • orchestrate digital marketing and public relations communications in multimedia to engage customers, promote products and brandings for B2B clients and B2C business;
  • apply knowledge in consumer psychology and behavioural patterns to determine the marketing strategies and planning;
  • identify appropriate Google analytics to measure campaign performance and sales conversions as well as optimising the web performance.
Assessment and Awards
  • Assessment is based on a combination of coursework and examinations. The percentage breakdown of coursework and examinations differs from module to module.
  • Students are required to meet 70% class attendance of each module to be eligible for sitting the examination of the respective courses.
  • Students who complete all 6 modules with not less than 70% attendance will be awarded the "Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing" within the HKU system through HKU SPACE.
  • Graduates of the Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing meet the education requirements for Associate Membership of HKIM.
  • Graduates* of the Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing may be eligible to apply for University of Hull’s BA(Hons) Marketing / Marketing and Management programme.
  • Graduates* of the Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing may be eligible to apply for Edinburgh Napier University’s BA (Hons) in Festival and Event Management programme.

*Bridging courses are required.

Professional Accreditation

​​The Professional Diploma in Social Media and Digital Marketing programme has obtained the professional recognition from the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing. The graduates of the Programme may apply separately for the award from the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing.

Hong Kong Institute of Marketing (HKIM) was founded in 1982. It is the ONLY non-profit making and independent professional body for marketers of Hong Kong. 

HKIM has been active in promoting marketing practices and issues in Hong Kong. It is also a promoter of marketing expertise, standards, ethics and knowledge through its activities, training and education programmes.

HKIM is a Founding Member of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Alliance and the Asia Marketing Federation.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should:

  • have gained in the HKDSE examination level 2 or above in 5 subjects including English language, and have 2 years of relevant work experience; or
  • have gained in the HKALE Grade E in 1 subject, and have 2 years of relevant work experience; or
  • have gained in the HKCEE Grade E in 4 subjects, and Level 2 in English language, and have 2 years of relevant work experience; or
  • have completed Diploma Yi Jin and with 2 years of relevant work experience; or
  • be aged 21 or above and have 3 years of relevant work experience.

Applicants with other equivalent qualifications and relevant work experience will be considered on individual merit.

Applicants are required to provide the below documents while applying for the programme:

  • Certified copies of your academic qualifications;
  • A copy of your Hong Kong Identity Card#

# To study in Hong Kong, all non-local applicants are required to obtain a student visa issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR Government, except for those admitted to Hong Kong as dependants, who do not need prior approval before taking up full-time and part-time studies. Non-local applicants issued with a valid employment visa also do not need prior approval to pursue part-time studies. It is the responsibility of individual applicants to make appropriate visa arrangements. Admission to a HKU SPACE academic programme/course does not guarantee the issue of a student visa. Applicants may wish to note that part-time courses are not considered by the Immigration Department for visa purposes except for self-financed, part-time locally accredited taught postgraduate programmes awarded within the HKU System through HKU SPACE.

Payment Method
1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment. 

  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
